The Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club, a student group at Harvard University, intends to host a "Black Mass" performed by the Satanic Temple on May 12. Early statements by the Satanic Temple indicated their intention to use a consecrated Eucharistic host, although they have since walked back from that statement.
Regardless of whether a real consecrated host will be used, this ritual is a mockery of the Catholic ritual of the Mass (which is itself based on the Jewish passover seder meal). We ask the President, as a graduate of Harvard Law School, to voice his opposition to this Satanic ceremony in his personal capacity as a Harvard alumnus. Recognizing the dangers of government interference in religion, we ask the President to voice his personal and not official opposition only.
