Using a law designed to stop terrorism, the UK government recently detained and questioned David Miranda, the partner of Glen Greenwald, one of the journalists reporting on the massive surveillance by the NSA and GCHQ. The questioning was not about terrorists or their plots, but about information on Edward Snowden, the whistle-blower who has exposed the possibly criminal actions of these government intelligence agencies. Additionally, they confiscated all of Mr. Miranda's electronic devices.
We urge President Obama to publicly denounce the harassment of innocent journalists and their loved ones under the guise of terrorism laws.
