Mr. President,
As a former member of the United States Army who served in OIF and OEF (Purple Heart), I urge you to deny the pardon request of PVT Bergdhal. A message must be sent that willful abandonment of your place of duty, no matter the reason, has consequences. Not only did his actions harm the mission in Afghanistan, but placed the lives of fellow service members in harm. If people do not agree with the War on Terror then that is a personal issues. But from a military standpoint this MUST be be denied to show that this action is not conductive of military service. I could not imagine if a precedent like this were allowed to take form before the World Wars. There other procedures to voice issues to your Chain of Command (which should be the focus) that do not place others in harm.
