Climate change is happening. The link between CO2 emissions and climate change is strong. Production of synthetic crude oil from Canadian tar sands has 300% higher carbon emissions than conventional crude oil production. At a time when the American public needs to move beyond dependence on carbon-heavy energy sources to thrive in the long-term, we are being sold one of the dirtiest fuels on the market as the very key to our stability.
Keystone XL won't just pollute our atmosphere. It will spill, massively, at least once in the next decade. TransCanada even admits this. Tar sands spills are more toxic, more expensive and more difficult to clean up; and yet corporations don't pay any taxes on it toward the Oil Spill Liability Fund because the IRS says "it's not crude"...
Cut the nonsense.
