PC manufacturers offer only black keyboards because it's cheaper, but the less common keys are so hard to read that you need an extra lamp to work on them. Additionally, they use small type in gray or blue on the black keys, which can only be read in very bright light.
Such machines can not be called energy efficient. For a few pennies more, they could have easy to read white keyboards.

Energy Star should discontinue endorsing products that require extra lighting for users, when this can be easily and cheaply avoided by using a high-contrast, highly legible white background.
