We the undersigned, in response to the recent mass of petitions to grant states peaceful secession wish to make known that we believe that:
- secession was the cause of the only civil war this country has ever faced
- secession, if permitted by even one state, will result in a lower quality of life for all Americans
- secession, even if peaceful and successful will solve but few problems yet create many more
- there are problems with the government which need to be addressed
- problems in government can only be solved by an open, honest and respectful discussion
- We value the democratic process and do not believe that secession will support that process.
We therefore petition that no state should be allowed to secede.
