In 1860, Abraham Lincoln wrote, "...my opinion is that no state can, in any way lawfully, get out of the Union, without the consent of the others; and that it is the duty of the President, and other government functionaries to run the machine as it is. --December 17, 1860 Letter to Thurlow Weed
Today, citizens of more than 20 states filed petitions for secession with the White House prior to seeking approval of the state legislature and prior to bringing the matter to vote in their states. These petitions do not represent the desire of the people of these 20+ states but rather the opinions of a select group.
Ignore these petitions for seccession which were filed without the consent of the people of these states.
