By denying trademark protection to the Washington Redskins football franchise, the White House has set a precedent for a new way to regulate free speech.
We think that the next group to be silenced should be the New York Yankees. Yankee was a derogatory term used by the British in the 1700s. Later, in the 1800s, it became a derogatory term used by Southerners to anyone born north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Since causing offense to any number of individuals is justifiable cause to deny free speech rights, it is clear that the New York Yankees should change their name. Please force them to do so. It will, at the very least, upset a few New York Giants fans.
