A Sept. 24 CDC report modeled that 70% of newly infected persons must be quarantined in Ebola stricken Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia to have a declining infection rate. Otherwise,about one-tenth of those countries' 10 million population will be infected and dying by January 2015, and that may cause a mass exodus. If the 70% quarantine goal can be reached, new infections can be controlled to about 1,500 per day in late December, and the outbreak ended next January. According to the World Health Organization Ebola status update of Oct. 8, there is a deficit of about 5,000 beds. Reducing transmission by rapid deployment of 20,000 more beds is the most humane, achievable and least expensive solution, and it best protects the United States.
