Deploy an informational rating system for news outlets similar to those for movies, television, music and video games.

Created by D.K. on November 13, 2012

Sophisticated ratings for movies, television, video games and music, are prominently presented immediately prior to viewing with the intent of informing and protecting audiences. Arguably, mass media news outlets have gained as much or more influence over audiences than many forms of media. No rating system exists to enable audiences to gauge the information they are receiving from news outlets. Like current systems, a news rating system should not limit free speech in any way. It should use existing proven models. It should provide concise ratings based on historical performance considering factors such as factual accuracy, objectivity, and journalistic integrity. Ratings should be reviewed and revised on a regular basis. Thresholds should be set to exclude outlets with small audiences.
