The use of privately owned, for-profit, correctional facilities is not in the best interests of United States citizens. These organizations ultimately answer to their shareholders, not the U.S. citizens or governing bodies. As such, they benefit from higher rates of incarceration and thus have no interest in rehabilitation. Simply put, more people in jail means more money in their pockets, which includes longer sentences, increased recidivism, and harsher immigration policies. End this morally devoid practice now!
