deregulate the use of sound suppressors in firearms to encourage and promote hearing safety.

Created by J.G. on March 13, 2015

Firearms suppressors were added to regulation in the National Firearms Act of 1934. They are considered a Title II device that is not a firearm. Suppressors work in the exact same way that earmuffs and earplugs work in that they reduce the decibel level of the report of a firearm.

Hollywood movies display suppressors as an attachment that can make a gunshot as quiet as a whisper but in reality a suppressor may take a report of 160 decibels and quiet it to 128 decibels. The reports vary by firearm but are still loud enough to determine that it was a firearm but not loud enough to permanently damage hearing.

We are seeking a resolution to modify the NFA to allow the use of firearms suppressors for the purposes of
1.) Backyard marksmanship
2.) Range shooting
3.) Hunting on private land
