After 9/11, we were united as a country; we were no longer black, white, etc. We were Americans, as it should have been socially encouraged once the 13th Amendent to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in December 1865. This year will mark 150 yrs since slavery was removed as a socially acceptable form of labor. Yet, our nation still behaves in ethnocentric ways: creating inequality in education, financial opportunity, and justice. Uniting our accomplishments as a nation, regardless of the race or gender of the person having contributed to the evolution of our country may help remove the racial/gender divide in our histories. Social psychology has proven the unification of two groups towards accomplishing a common goal as a form of breaking down barriers. "United we stand, divided we fall."
