The U. S. K-9 Corps was created on 13 March 1942 by Undersecretary of War Robert P. Patterson. Make Joe White’s, former K9 trainer, dream come true and designate 13 March as K-9 Veterans Day.
Military Working Dog’s (MWDs) sense of smell is 100,000 times stronger than humans, giving them the ability to detect even the smallest trace of explosives or drugs and alert their handler. They also have the ability to cause fear in an attacker unlike any human can and will defend their handlers to their last breath. Countless human lives have been saved by our brave MWDs.
"War dogs have, indeed, served the nation well and saved many lives. Dogs continue to serve to protect Americans both in combat zones and in homeland security roles." -- Retired Gen. Colin Powell
