This petition was created to encourage people to come together over something we could all use a little more of... peace & quiet.
We are the rats in the rat race, and if the rats take a breather, the race gets put on hold.
This cannot go on forever, of course, but in a country that is often polarized over countless issues, maybe finding something we can all come together over is exactly what we need.
While this petition is not designed to specifically be a religious event, it is also not designed to alienate or discourage the devout from using their 15 minutes of silence however they see fit. It's not designed to alienate anyone, in fact.
Togetherness... we talk about it, but rarely see it. Maybe if we stopped, just for a few moments, and listened... the silence may speak volumes.
