1) Make Election Day a national holiday so that the working people of this nation are guaranteed access to the polls.

This issue is important because of the low turnout in American elections. While turnout has been rising in recent years, according to the census bureau and the Center for the Study of the American Electorate, voter turnout still hovers around fifty percent. Giving people the day off of work by making Election Day a national holiday would give the working people of this nation a better chance at making it to the polls. For those who often work on national holidays, such as minimum wage workers, legislation aimed at giving them the opportunity to vote could help as well.
