We petition the administration to designate the annual Federal election day as a national holiday, to make it practical for a much larger section of our electorate to get to the polls on that day.
This will also spread out the load on polling places, which should help in reducing wait times and stay-late situations, and provide more time during the day to deal with problems that inevitably arise.
Replacing Columbus Day as a federal holiday will keep the number of such holidays constant, and all the other things The Oatmeal itemized in a virally-popullar comic strip this fall.
