Have you heard of the massive 'island' of floating garbage/plastic that is collecting in the ocean? It is estimated to be the size of Texas! See this link:

The garbage is floating north and east of Hawaii(West of California) We must find a way to clean this mess! I read it may even be transporting invasive and non-native species as well as bacteria that is growing on the floating mass. Think of the whales that are making their way to Hawaii for the winter breeding. They will likely be headed right through this trash vortex.
We must initiate a plan for clean up of this waste in an environmentally sound way. I believe the US should spearhead this movement.
Lets keep our beaches clean and our oceans safe.
