Designate the Grand Canyon Watershed as a National Monument

We encourage President Obama to designate the Grand Canyon watershed as a national monument, including the land between the Grand Canyon-Parashant national monument and the Vermilion Cliffs national monument. This monument should include the North Kaibab Plateau, which contains the most intact old-growth forest in the Southwest, including old-growth ponderosa pine forests. The Grand Canyon watershed was historically home to the Clovis, Basketmaker, and Puebloan peoples. More than 3000 ancient Native American sites have been documented in the region. Some of the sites date back as far as 11,000 BCE. Protecting this area will allow for continued public access, hiking, birding, hunting, fishing, and traditional tribal uses.
