The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a massive depository of plastics roughly the size of Texas floating in the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands. The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) has petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Superfund Division (Region IX, San Francisco, CA) to designate the Great Pacific Garbage Patch a superfund environmental cleanup site. We support that petition and request that President Obama direct the EPA to approve the petition.
