designate the "institution" of marriage a religious one, nullifying any benefits of being state or federally recognized

Created by J.J. on September 10, 2013

Opponents to legalizing gay marriage want to maintain the "institution" as a religious one and I petition that this be allowed. As a compromise, remove the rights and privileges that come with being a federally or state recognized institution and grant them to an institution that is available to EVERY American, as a citizens of the United States and not as members of a specific religion. Privileges such as health benefits, tax exemptions, and end of life decision making privileges cannot, in good faith to the Constitution of the United States, be denied to citizens of this country because their state only provides these benefits to legally recognized marriages. This allows the specific church to decide on whether they allow homosexual marriage but makes rights available to ALL CITIZENS.
