Sky Lanterns are hot air balloons increasingly used in the US to celebrate the 4th of July, in memorial services, fundraising for breast cancer, and the honoring of people and events.
Despite being banned in some states, they are among the most innocuous of fire-related products--far safer than fireworks, like the common sparklers used on July 4th, birthdays, New Year's, etc.
We think that the use of these quiet, beautiful, and striking balloons should be encouraged on the evening before Independence Day--a day that has traditionally been used to celebrate not only our independence, but for all things patriotic. In particular, we wish to see Sky Lanterns to be used to honor our returning, injured and killed soldiers.
