Since 1876, Major League Baseball has been a thread in the fabric of American culture and society. It has brought men and women together to sit in the sun and argue, not over politics or social issues, but over the benefits of the Designated Hitter or the sacrifice bunt.
We should celebrate the start of each new baseball season with a National Holiday. A day when parents and children can play catch, take some swings and go to the ballpark to watch their team. A day to celebrate renewal. A day to celebrate hope. A day when all teams are in first place, all hitters lead the league in batting average and no pitcher has given up a run.
Baseball is America. Young men from all walks of life, different nations, living out a dream.
