May Day originated in the United States as the day recognized by the working class as their day, to celebrate its achievements and remember those who fell to the struggle. May Day commemorates the struggle for the 8 hour work day and the fight that continues to this very day for workers caught in the machinery of profit. It is a day where workers around the world celebrate solidarity and mutual aid. Unlike the 80+ countries across the globe that celebrate this day as it was intended, the elite in the United States have continued to subvert May Day into something else. They do this in order to subtly beat class consciousness into the ground and remove May Day's American significance from the American workers' inspiring history. Here, May 1 is Loyalty Day and Law Day.
