The Super Bowl is one of the most watched television events in the United States. Viewers tend to enjoy themselves while watching it and immerse themselves in the culture of American football. This celebration of American sports is a cultural phenomenon that by some accounts costs American businesses $170 million due to employees calling in sick or arriving late the Monday after the Super Bowl.
This is why Super Bowl Monday should be a Federal holiday.
To keep the Federal holiday calendar balanced, Columbus Day (with it's dubious historicity and culturally insensitive connotations) should be scrapped and replaced with Super Bowl Monday.
The day could be used as a celebration of athletics in America and possibly tied in with the First Lady's Let's Move! Campaign.
