As our nation’s population becomes increasingly diverse, it is important that our healthcare workforce represents that diversity. To make breakthroughs in science and medicine for the future, we need a healthy pipeline of diverse, talented teens to consider entering research careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.
Recently, STEM fields have received increasing national attention with discussions of how best to encourage students to pursue these careers. As high school students enrolled in a health research pipeline program, we propose that a National TEACH (Training Early Achievers for Careers in Health) Research Day be created highlighting research careers in schools to improve diversity and generate interest.
