If greatness is measured by the size of your hat, then America deserves a big one. A really big one. And for over 150 years, no hat has loomed larger than the legendary ten-gallon hat.
Some say it was first worn by Mexican cowboys to keep the sun out of their eyes and to cast cool-looking shadows across the desert. They would wrap braided bands called galóns around the hats, sometimes as many as ten at a time. This style was soon adopted by fashion forward Texans who began calling the hats, ten-gallons. Since then, it has endured as an American symbol for all those with an unquenchable thirst for freedom and individuality.
