Spending 1 million dollars per year to kill owls is a waste of taxpayer money and is morally unacceptable.The United States Fish And Wildlife Service claims this program is to save Spotted owls. Barred owls will continue to enter the Pacific Northwest old growth forests. They are larger and will out-compete Spotted owls for prey. They have larger talons by almost 2 mm. Barred owls come down from Canada. In trial kills, 49% of Barred owls killed were new to the territory. So the killing will go on for years with little to no benefit to Spotted owls and old growth Forests.
Tell the U.S.F.W.S. and Interior Department to spend money to directly preserve old growth forests, not killing owls.
