In light of the recent wave of public killings, including but not limited to those in Aurora, Colorado; Portland, Oregon; and Sandy Hook, Connecticut; we the people petition President Barack Obama to call for a formal commission to asses public interest and/or support in the repealing of the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which legalizes firearms ownership in the United States of America.
We no longer live in a world where a well regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free America, and it is the duty of the leaders of democracy to estimate whether the people agree as such. If found to be in the public's favor, we request the President propose legislation to Congress that would repeal the 2nd Amendment and criminalize possession and/or ownership of firearms.
