We petition President Obama to direct the federal agencies with active military and law enforcement duties within the executive branch (e.g. DOD, DOJ, DHS) to begin developing and testing smart gun technology for immediate deployment. Federal law enforcement agencies and the military have a vested interest in ensuring that their agents and soldiers are never killed with their own or their colleagues/fellow soldiers weapons. In addition, terrorists may attempt to raid weapons caches intended for US and allied militaries, which would be greatly inhibited by this technology. The US executive agencies are the largest purchasers of firearms in the world and those guns should be made more safe for the brave men and women we put in harms way as soon as possible.
