I think it is important to revisit history and see what can be learn from it in terms of correcting for the challanges cause by the removal of boarder. For instance:
1 - Look at mass migration in the 40s, 50s, 60s and see what what was happening in that time period; what was the response and what was the effects and see what can be learned to address some of the exsiting immigration issues and those to come as a result of globalization.
2) Education has built this country and education can do it again. Think about the Morill Act of 1862 and 1890 and what it did for this country and continues to do. It is important to revise those two acts in addition to the Smith Act. These were pivotal in tranfroming attitudes about many things and can do so again, but it must be adquately finance.
