Develop legislation to limit the number of terms a Congressman or Senator can serve

Created by E.P. on January 02, 2013

Congressman and Senators currently serve without term limits. For this reason, they are driven to increase financial support for re-election, allowing special interest groups to sway how a member of Congress votes. Support for term limits will improve a member of Congress' tendency to vote on principle instead of on party lines. Younger, newer members will introduce fresh thinking and new ideas. They will be less influenced by bureaucracy and lobbyist groups and will reduce wasteful federal spending. In addition, Congressional term limits will encourage lower taxes, smaller government, and greater voter participation in elections. Most importantly, Congressional term limits will build a 'citizen' Congress and drive out career politicians.
