In the current era of increasing US obesity rates among children and adults stemming predominately from poor nutritional choices and sedentary lifestyles, the government could serve an inspiring function in getting Americans back on track with an annual physical fitness test (administered by Board certified physicians).
The test would have minimum standards (similar to Physical Fitness Tests in military and law enforcement communities) that U.S. citizens must meet in order to be in good standing under the U.S. Citizen Health and Wellness Standard (HWS).
Top performers could garner praise from the White house or State Government, and financial subsidies for home/car/insurance costs.
Penalties for not meeting the HWS could include fines, tax and mandated community service.
