Develop a proof of concept Thorium Reactor that could reduce or eliminate our need for oil and our carbon footprint.

Thorium power is a form of nuclear energy that has potential to be safer and more scalable than nuclear energy based on Uranium or Plutonium. Given that the development of this energy would benefit all Americans it should be in interest of the U.S. Government to develop the technologies to make this type of energy scalable and economically feasible. The success development will have far reaching effects such as stronger military, advanced medicines and treatments, deep space exploration, reduced carbon footprint, reduced or eliminated use of carbon based fuels, and higher standard of living.
