We've been pursuing nuclear energy the wrong way for 60 years with solid fuel rod reactors that created weapons grade materials. Thorium fluid fuel reactors were described in a 1958 Atomic Energy Commission book called "Fluid Fuel Reactors." The design is so simple and precludes the possibility of any kind of meltdown. We now have the materials technology to create the containment vessels to hold the corrosive mixture of thorium and salts. The Chinese and Russians are working on this technology. We are constantly worried about current nuclear reactors after what happened in Fukushima, Japan. Why not pursue a nuclear technology that is safe and would remove the need for fossil fuels that nuclear energy was supposed to solve a half a century ago?
