Diminish $165 billion in food waste in the USA to help 50 million hungry Americans and the environment

Created by E.F. on July 21, 2015

Make it illegal for businesses to throw away unspoiled food. Instead supermarkets and grocery stores must donate all unsold food that is still edible to food pantries and charities for distribution to the poor. Spoiled food must go to agricultural or other uses, not landfills.

It's time the USA stepped towards a humanitarian and environmental solution to these growing issues. Businesses already have tax incentive for donating to eligible charities so there is no excuse.

Americans throw away a horrific amount of edible food every year, which ends up in landfills rather than on tables. This is unacceptable in a country where an estimated 50 million people, including children, go hungry on a daily basis.
