Nat’l Rifle Assn President Jim Porter recently said
“One of our greatest charges . . . is to train the civilian in the use of the standard military firearm so when they have to fight for their country, they’re ready to do it. Also, when they’re ready to fight tyranny, they’re ready to do it. Also, when they’re ready to fight tyranny, they have the wherewithal and the weapons to do it. . . It’s a sacred duty . . .”
18 U.S.C. § 2385 makes it a crime to teach the duty or desirability of overthrowing the U.S. government. The full context of Porter’s speech makes clear that he was advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government by teaching that NRA members have a duty to do so.
Mr. President, please prosecute this crime.
