There are Bills and Proposals in many of the states to put in place a variety of restrictions on acceptable Voter Identification.
Many of these State Laws are awaiting Dept. of Justice clearance. We urge this clearance be denied as an effort to suppress the vote of minorities and seniors who surveys have shown 16 to 20 % are without photo identification as would be required in order to have a vote counted.
It is our opinion these Voter Registration Laws are a burdensome restriction and, although the stated intention of the sponsors of the legislation is to have eliminate voter fraud, there is insufficient evidence that this concern is justified.
We the undersigned believe these Laws violate the provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution.
