Earlier this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission was alarmed when dozens of children were injured by accidental ingestion of Buckyballs. Some children needed to be hospitalized, suffered GI injuries, and required surgery.
Despite a clear warning on the product that they are not toys and should never be given to children, the CPSC recommended the product pulled from all shelves 7/2012. On 12/21/2012, Buckballs and similar rare-earth magnet balls were banned from sale in the USA.
While not belittling the injuries to dozens children, how can our government not use the same power when guns have injured and killed over 30,000 citizens this year? Including, of course, the recent tragedy in Sandy Hook with more fatalities than all Buckyball injuries.
Please do the right thing.
