Since Columbine the nation's police forces have realized that the most important step during a school shooting situation is immediately locating and confronting the shooter. Unfortunately, deaths will occur during the minutes it takes for 911 calls to be placed and for police to arrive at the school. Police officers stationed within the school itself can respond before lives are lost.
We protect government offices, airports, and numerous other buildings with armed guards. Are our schools and the children inside any less important?
