The elephants living at the National Zoo are confined in cages, living most if their lives on hard concrete and vulnerable to deadly bone destroying diseases and early mortality. The elephants are permanently confined and cannot roam, explore, or enjoy a peaceful quality of life. Elephants in zoos display unhealthy, stressed behavior and do not enhance the public's knowledge or awareness of elephants in the wild. At the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, all of these elephants could live freely on hundreds of acres in peace and dignity.
Please direct the Department of Agriculture to release the National Zoo's elephants to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
