Driving a vehicle is an activity that requires all senses to be on alert. When a driver hears a sound effect on the radio that mimics danger on the road, such as screeching tires, a honk, or a crash, they will react, often with a swerve, or a slam on the brakes. This can easily cause a chain reaction of events with other vehicles and stationary objects.
Similarly, if a driver hears a siren, their instinct is to pull over immediately, or look around for the vehicle, taking their eyes off the road. Eventually the sirens will mean nothing.
We ask the FCC to prohibit the use of these sound effects in radio production (commercials, show intros, station announcements, etc.) and songs played over the AM & FM frequencies. Fines similar to profanity regulations could be levied as a consequence.
