Scott Wheeler is proposing a complete reversal to net neutrality, and instead putting forward a policy to allow edge providers such as Comcast, Verizon and AT&T to charge companies to gain access to the equivalent of an Internet 'fast-lane' for their content.
This rule would clearly benefit large entrenched companies and damage innovation in the market while forcing consumers to pay even more for the sub-standard internet access they receive today. The largest ISPs already realize a profit margin of roughly 95%, and have shown little to no interest in investing in upgrading their woeful infrastructure while they continue to gouge consumers with some of the highest charges for internet access in the world.
