The US has some of the most restrictive regulations on wireless spectrum in the world. Currently the same regulations are used Nation wide rather than being tailored to the location or environment. These regulations give huge advantages to large corporations that can hold Nation wide licenses for wireless spectrum while small local Wireless Internet Service Providers have much more limited access. With access to higher power and additional spectrum, small local businesses could afford to bring Broadband access into rural areas that big corporations see little or no profit in serving. This would spur innovation, create jobs, and raise the access to telecommunications in Rural America more effectively than government subsidies to big telcos ever will.
