There is currently a proposed rule before the Food and Drug Administration (Docket No. FDA-2009-P-0147) that would allow the dairy industry to add sweeteners, including aspartame, to milk without labeling under the guise of making it "more attractive to children". However, this removes the ability of parents to fully and adequately monitor what their children are consuming and increases the likelihood of severe reactions in people with sensitivities to unlabeled ingredients, including and especially aspartame. The FDA should work to ensure more, not less, information on labeling of food and should be directed to deny this petition.
