AT least 11 US school shooters are known to have been on or withdrawing from Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) - commonly prescribed antidepressant medications. These medications have been causally linked to violence and suicides.
On September 16, 2011 a Canadian judge concluding that Prozac caused a sixteen-year-old boy to knife a friend to death. Dr. Peter Breggin has given Congressional testimony that SSRIs are causally linked to military suicides.
Any discussion about reducing incidences of mass murder must also look at root causes, such as the mental health history of perpetrators. Thus we urge the President to direct appropriate federal agencies, such as the FDA, and DOJ, and to allocate funds to private research, to study the link between SSRIs and mass shootings
