The Forest Service plans on poisoning an estimated 16,000 prairie dogs in Thunder Basin National Grassland in Wyoming. This is due in part to the fact that they are too close to private and state land. This Grassland is one of the last remaining safe-havens for the disappearing prairie dogs. We recommend that the President direct the Forest Service to find an alternative to killing these thousands of uniquely American species. The Humane Society as well as many other animal related charities would be happy to help in relocating these cornerstones of The Great Plains. Please direct the Forest Service to relocate the at-risk prairie dogs to the safer confines of the protected grassland and avoid the senseless killing of tens of thousands and the tainting of a beautiful grassland.
