Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has repeatedly denied requests to release his federal tax return because it is under routine audit by the IRS. Since the IRS is an Executive Branch agency under the Department of the Treasury, President Obama has the authority to direct the IRS to immediately cease its audit of Mr. Trump's tax return, removing this obstacle to public transparency. We respectfully request that President Obama issue an Executive Order directing the IRS to cease its audit of Mr. Trump.
