36 states have enacted laws requiring various ID requirements and legal documentation that must be provided to vote in an election, despite an overwhelming absence of evidence of fraud committed by individuals exercising their rights. That these laws have been enacted at a time when civil rights issues are again coming to the forefront speaks to a concerted effort to deny voters access to the polls.
