Recent reports detail massive, longterm, and sophisticated hacking attempts aimed at US news organizations and social networks. Details of these attacks suggest state-sponsored cyberwar capabilities.
While I am sure the appropriate US agencies are already analyzing these attacks, I believe that the American people should be kept informed of the broad outlines of these investigations.
Further, we should be informed who perpetrated these acts, and what our political, diplomatic, and technological responses will be.
It is time for a Monroe Doctrine for the Internet.
Tell us what the US is doing about this, tell us who did it, and tell the world what we will do about it.
